Vinglas, Walter L., 93, Cresson, went home to be with the Lord March 24, 2020 at Vindobona Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Frederick, MD. Born November 15, 1926, Gallitzin, son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Abretski) Vinglas. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Marjorie O. (Chernesky), whom he married on June 7, 1948 and shared 68 years with; sons, Walter P. and Lawrence P. Vinglas; brothers, George, John, Michael, Joseph, Frank and Leo Vinglas; and sisters, Francis Stasik, Helen Zabinsky, Victoria Koeck and Mary Ksiazkiewicz. Survived by his daughter, Carol L. Plunkett and husband, Richard, Middletown, MD; grandchildren, Oriana L. Poruban and husband, Timothy, Lilly; Walter I. Vinglas, Cresson; Matthew R. Plunkett and wife, Melissa, Myersville, MD; Adam C. Plunkett and wife, Jennifer; and Cara L. Plunkett, both of Middletown, MD; great-grandchildren, Jestin, Jordyn and Jerry Poruban, all of Lilly; Tyler Vinglas, Portage; Harper and Ellis Plunkett, Myersville, MD; and Makenna Plunkett, of Middletown, MD; brother, Thomas Vinglas and wife, Judy, Cresson; and many numerous nieces and nephews. Walter was an Army veteran of WWII and then went on to have many careers over his lifetime. Walter worked in the coalmine, on the railroad, had a barbershop and finally retired in 1981 from the VA Hospital, Altoona. In his retirement he always had some project to keep him busy. You could find him building, fixing, bulldozing, mowing or buying and selling something. He also enjoyed hunting, playing cards and spending time with and helping his family. In his later years his highlights were good food, desserts, especially ice cream and visits from his family. He faced many health problems with strength, courage and humor. Special thank you to his niece, Theresa Vinglas, for her loving care and support. Due to the recent COVID-19 recommendations and restrictions, the family will have a private viewing and service, Rev. Leo Arnone, celebrant. Entombment, St. Francis Xavier Church Cemetery. A memorial Mass will be held at a later date for the public. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Cambria Alliance EMS, 725 2nd Street, Cresson, PA 16630 or the Cresson Public Library, 231 Laurel Ave., Cresson, PA 16630.
