Lola Roxanne Johnson

Johnson, Lola DeForrest, 74, McVeytown, PA, passed away on December 18, 2020 with her beloved husband of 51 years by her side. Born December 20, 1945 in Chester, PA, daughter of the late Donald H. and Kathryn McCune DeForrest. Survived by her husband, Raymond “Dip” Johnson; children, Eric Walker and wife, Vyvyan; Greg Johnson and wife, Maxine; grandchildren, Gigi, Jonathan, Hanna, Haley, Noah, and Wyatt, and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by her oldest son, Terry Walker, Jr.; grandson, Matthew Walker; and older siblings, Jean Stevens, Donald DeForrest, Jr., Paul DeForrest, and Lee DeForrest. Lola was an avid reader and had many interests. From her mother, Kathryn, she inherited her religious faith and great love for reading and writing. As many can attest, she enjoyed corresponding through letters and cards and accumulated quite an extensive collection of books over the years. She cherished her experiences growing up on the DeForrest farm outside of Huntingdon, PA and enjoyed telling stories of family history. She also loved antiques and hunting for unique items at local auctions and yard sales. It brought her happiness to find the perfect gifts for family and friends. She collected pottery, antique purses and pins, loved the ocean, and fondly remembered her trips to Canada and Europe. Lola was a lifelong believer in education and enrolled at Juniata College after her sons were grown, where she went on to earn a degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. After graduation, she taught kindergarten at Shirley Township Elementary School. She relished the opportunity and was well-loved by her students and their parents, who often continued to stay in touch with her through the years. Lola cared deeply about animals and donated to many animal causes. Later in life, she took great pleasure in feeding cats, raccoons, and the occasional possum living around her home. To honor her memory and love for animals, in lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorial contributions be made to the Huntingdon County Humane Society, 11371 School House Hollow Rd, Huntingdon, PA 16652. A celebration of her life with family and friends will be held in late Spring or early Summer. Arrangements have been entrusted to Heath-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 61 E. Shirley St., Mount Union, “Honored Provider of Veterans Funeral Care™.” Condolences may be made at AndersonFamilyFuneralHomes.com.
