McClain, Lavonda J., 89, Mount Union, passed away April 19, 2020 at her home. Born May 18, 1930, in Allenport, Shirley Twp., daughter of the late Harry S. and C. Gladys (Jenkins) Carl. She was united in marriage to Gerald L. McClain on July 29, 1953 at the Allenport United Methodist Church by the Rev. Frank Crawford. Her husband of 61 years preceded her in death on April 22, 2015. Also preceded in death by her sister, Madaline Carl; brother, H. Glenn Carl and wife, Carol; and two nephews, Glenn Carl and Robert Carl. Survived by a niece, Joann Carl, Downingtown; great-nephew, Robert Carl and wife, Emilie; great-great-nephew, Brandon Carl; and great-great-niece, Alexis Carl, all of Reading. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Lavonda graduated from Mount Union High School, class of 1948. She had been an active member of the Allenport United Methodist Church, where she had served on the administrative board, was a church treasurer for 25 years and a participant in the church choir, women’s bible class and the United Methodist Women. She retired from the former G.C. Murphy Store in Mount Union after 37 years, where she served as an assistant manager for 17 years. After her retirement, she became a housewife and caregiver to her husband. Due to the recent COVID-19 recommendations and restrictions, the family will have a private viewing and service, with a memorial service to be held at a later date, Pastor Brian Myfelt, officiant. Interment Haven Rest Memorial Cemetery, Shirleysburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Allenport United Methodist Church, c/o Kay Coons, Treasurer, 14942 Croghan Pike, Mount Union, PA  17066.
