Erma R. Wilkerson

Wilkerson, Erma R. , 83, a lifelong resident of Mount Union, entered into everlasting rest on January 4, 2021, at home surrounded by her family. Born in 1937, daughter of the late Harrison and Cassanna (Carter) Galloway. On November 21, 1954 she was united in marriage to the love of her life, Merritt “Midd” Wilkerson. Midd preceded Erma in death on January 23, 1985. Erma leaves to mourn the following children and step-children: Merritt “Turk” Wilkerson and wife, Sandy, Chambersburg; Polly Wilkerson, Tyrone; Christopher Wilkerson and wife, Mary Jo, Newville; Timothy “Tall” Wilkerson, Mount Union; Jackie Pierce and wife, Celia, Roxboro NC; and Shirley Mae Davis and husband, James C., Roxboro NC. Erma was blessed with 8 grandchildren, Damien Wilkerson, Adrien Wilkerson, Nikki Wilkerson, Taray Wilkerson, Fred Pierce, Angela Lowery, Patrick Davis and Aaron Davis. She is not here now to watch her many great and great great-grandchildren grow and prosper. Brother, Harrison Galloway, survives in Texas. Preceded in death by sisters, Loretta “Buzzy” Helton and Leona ‘Poochie” Collins. Mrs. Wilkerson was an ever present and faithful member of the Mount Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Mount Union, until her health prohibited her participation. She worked tirelessly there and served on the boards and committees: Trustee Board, Usher Board, Pastor’s Aid Society and the Kitchen Committee. Many in town will remember all the fundraisers that she spearheaded for the Pastor’s Aid Society along with her participation in the Canal Days Celebration each year. Her participation was eagerly received as she sold countless pieces of her friend chicken and many homemade pies. Erma was also known for her love of hosting large cookouts and family reunions in her backyard. She would spend long days preparing for those friend and family gatherings. Often a roasted pig would be the main attraction. She loved traveling and in earlier years she was able to see the sights of London and Paris. Erma also enjoyed spending days driving southward to visit family in North Carolina. The family would like to express their gratitude to Grane Hospice Care of Altoona for all the kindness and professional care shown to their mother by the entire staff, especially Miranda and Jenny. The family also appreciates help given by Shannon of Social Services and Pastor Dave Hersh for his support. At the request of Erma and the family, all services will be private followed by an interment at Mount Union Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Heath-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 61 E. Shirley St., Mount Union, “Honored Provider of Veterans Funeral Care™.” Condolences may be made at AndersonFamilyFuneralHomes.com.
