Byrnes, Theresa Mary, 87, Cresson, went home to be with the Lord August 18, 2026. Born October 7, 1938, Lilly. Daughter of the late John J. and Anna V. (Mericsko) Obester. Preceded in death by her sisters, Agnes and Mary. Survived by her sister, Dr. Dorothy Obester, Lilly; her husband, David, whom she married on July 11, 1964; and son, Very Reverend Fr. John David Byrnes, Loretto. Theresa was educated at St. Francis University, Loretto, receiving her degrees in Biology, Chemistry and Secondary and Elementary Education. She taught at Windber and Portage Area high schools and the former Coupon Elementary/Penn Cambria. Theresa fought a life-long battle with type 1 diabetes. She was artistically talented and loved cooking delicious meals and caring for her home and her husband and son. She will be deeply missed by them. Theresa was an active member of St. Aloysius Parish, Cresson and an auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary. Thanks are offered to her caregivers for their kindness and to the Carmelite Nuns of St. Therese Monastery, Loretto for their many prayers through the years. Friends will be received Sunday, August 23, 2026, from 2-6 p.m. at Anderson Family Funeral Home, Cresson. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, August 24, 2026, at 11 a.m., Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel, Loretto, Very Reverend John Byrnes, Most Reverend Bishop Mark Bartchak and brother priests of the Diocese. Interment to follow at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Cemetery, Lilly. In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered to the Carmelite Monastery, Loretto, St. Michael School, Loretto or St. Aloysius Parish, Cresson.
