Obituary

Miller, Stanley E., 84, Mount Union, passed away peacefully Tuesday February 4, 2025, at home surrounded by his family. Born December 3, 1940, Newton Hamilton, son of the late Paul Eugene and Esther Gertrude (Boaz) Miller. Survived by his loving wife, Caroline M. (Coder) Miller. Also survived by children, Crystal Miller and Brian Miller and wife, Denise; 1 granddaughter, Shayna Miller; and siblings, Nancy Waite and husband, Richard; Betty Waite; and Donald Miller and wife, Roseann; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceded in death by sister Martha Musser and husband, Glenn; and a brother-in-law, Lewis Waite. Mr. Miller was a 1958 graduate of Captain Jack Joint High School, Mount Union. He was of the Methodist faith and a member of the Mount Union First United Methodist Church for 63 years where he was a member of the Board of Trustees, serving as treasurer, for 27 years as well as a member of the Herman Smith Sunday School Class. Mr. Miller retired from Weis Markets as store manager after 43 years of employment. He loved his work and enjoyed interacting with the public daily. He was a member and past master of the Mount Union F&AM Lodge 688 where he belonged for 65 years. Mr. Miller was also a member of the Jaffa Shrine of Altoona and Harrisburg Consistory for 50 years. He was a past president of the Mount Union Lions Club, Mount Union Little League, Mount Union Teener League, and the Mount Union Borough Council. He was also an Honorary Member of the Mount Union Fire Department. In his free time, he enjoyed planting flowers and watching birds from his rocking chair on the back porch. Most of all he loved to spend time with his family and friends. Family and friends will be received on Monday February 10, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again on Tuesday February 11, 2025, from 10 a.m. until the time of Masonic service at 10:45 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m., at the funeral home, Pastor Dan Long, officiant. A private interment will follow at Mount Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make memorial contributions to the First Church of Mount Union Trustees, 15 W Shirley St, Mt Union, PA 17066.
