Obituary

Ronald M. Baker, 87, passed away on May 8, 2026, at the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Altoona. Ron was a lifelong resident of Trough Creek Valley. Born August 17, 1938, son of the late Richard M. and Lorraine (Speck) Baker. Additionally, Ronald is also preceded in death by sister, Marie Adams and two brothers, Joe Baker and Don Baker. Mr. Baker was united in marriage to the former Betty Brumbaugh on June 10, 1959, in Winchester, Virginia. He and Betty would have been married for 67 years this June. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Connie Speck of Huntingdon and Rhonda Poorman of Bellwood. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Laura Strayer and husband George of Tipton, Erin and Dylan Speck of Huntingdon, Kaby-Ann Torello and husband Matthew of Elizabethtown, and Alex Gladfelter of Huntingdon. Also are six great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Easton Torello, Elijah, Daniel, Abigail and Callen Strayer. He is also survived by one brother, Robert Baker and wife Sandy of Calvin and four sisters, Earla Mae Seagar of Huntingdon, Sarah Buckley of Calvin, Judy Buckley and husband Bo of Smithfield and Gloria Morrow of Huntingdon and a sister-in-law, Nancy Baker of Smithfield. Ronald was a 1956 graduate of Captain Jack High School. Following graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army. After receiving an honorable discharge, he was employed at Owens-Corning Fiberglass for over 35 years where he worked in the mat line as a heatman/bushing operator until his retirement. Ron took great pride in his job. Most of all, Ron enjoyed being with his wife, Betty, they did everything together. They enjoyed traveling to Clearfield and Bloomsburg county fairs to listen to country music. He also enjoyed gardening and mowing his large yard with his John Deere Tractor. In his younger years he enjoyed deer hunting. He also enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
