Eckenrode, Robert J. “Blackie”, 68, Cresson, passed away February 6, 2018 at his home after a battle with lung cancer. Born February 9, 1949, Altoona, son of Harold T. and Edna E. (Trexler) Eckenrode. Preceded in death by his father; brothers, James and Michael; and a nephew, Jason Eckenrode. Survived by his loving wife, Catherine (Farabaugh); mother, Edna; step-children, Tracy Mazur; Roy Farabaugh and girlfriend, Vicki & family; Tricia Farabaugh; special grandson, Timmy Farabaugh, Marine Corps Veteran serving during Afghanistan and Iraq; grandsons, Christopher A. and Trevor; great-grandson, Christopher T.; siblings, Ed; Dick; Don and wife, Cindy; Linda and husband, Tom; Susan and husband, John; Bill and wife, Kathy; Floyd; Martha and husband, Rick; and a sister-in-law, Joyce. Blackie drove truck for 15 years and was an Army Vietnam Veteran serving 27 years. He was a member of the Loretto American Legion Post 748 and the Sankertown VFW Post 7377, where he served as a past Commander. Blackie enjoyed golfing and going to the river. Friends and family will be received Friday, February 9 from 4-8 p.m., Kennedy-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 233 Keystone Ave., Cresson, where military honors will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. by the Sankertown VFW, Loretto & Cresson American Legions, and other local veteran organizations. A vigil for the deceased will be conducted at 7:45 p.m., Fr. Matthew Reese, celebrant. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project on behalf of Robert.
