Rita Leahey

Leahey - Rita Genevieve, 92, of Lilly passed away peacefully July 14, 2015 at Maple Winds Care Center. Born May 7, 1923 in Lilly daughter of the late Robert T. and Mary A. (McNally) Moreland. She married Norbert J. Leahey Sr. on July 21, 1951 at St. Bridgid's Church, Lilly, and he preceded her in death on March 17, 1984. She is survived by her loving daughters, Patricia, wife of Edward Grove, Diane, wife of Duane Misiura Sr., and Mary, wife of James Kozak, all of Lilly; grandchildren Tracey (Brian) Park, Harrisburg, Edward (Shannon Hale) Grove Jr,. Cresson, Shawn (Bernadette Marra) Grove, Dysart, Christine (Vincent) Capone, Hollidaysburg, Duane (Jennifer Koehle) Misiura Jr., Duncansville, and Melissa Misiura, Cresson; great grandchildren, Madison & Zachary Grove, Brady Park, Sage & Jude Capone, Damon & Kaley Misiura and Sierra Misiura. Also survived by sister's-in-law: Anita Miller, Maryland, and Shirley Brown, York and many loving and caring nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Norbert J. Leahey Jr. and siblings, Robert, Alberta Leap, William, Agnes McIntosh, Florence McCarthy, John, Colleta Wallace, Thomas, Chester, Dorothy Devett, and Quentin Brown. Rita was a 1941 graduate of Lilly High School, member of Our Lady of the Alleghenies where she was a C.C.D. teacher and kitchen lady for many years. She also worked on the election board and volunteered for the American Red cross for many years. She was a devoted wife, mom, gram, great-grammy and loved being with her family. Her family is greatly appreciative of the wonderful care mom received while at Maple Winds Care Center. Friends will be received from 4-8:00pm Thursday at the Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home Cresson, where vigil service will be held. Funeral Mass will be held 11:00am Friday at Our Lady of the Alleghenies Catholic Church, Lilly, the Rev. Msgr. John R. Sasway, VF, Celebrant. Interment at St. Brigid's Cemetery Lilly. In Lieu of flowers, donations in Rita's memory may be made to Our Lady of the Alleghenies Parish, Lilly.
