Richard N. Ernest, 80, Mount Union, passed away on April 11, 2026, at The Embassy of Woodland Park, Orbisonia, after a brief illness. Born August 14, 1945, son of the late Norman and Flora (DeMario) Ernest. Richard was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was preceded in death by siblings, Arthur Ernest, Donna Beeler, infant brother, Ronald Ernest, and son, Larry Ernest. Mr. Ernest is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Jean (Mellott) Ernest. They married February 27, 1965, and enjoyed 61 years together. In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by son, David Ernest and his wife Lisa of Mount Union; daughter, Shelly Ernest and companion, Van Brunson of Columbus, Ohio; grandsons, Master Sergeant Tyler Duffey USMC (Ret) and wife Katherine of Jacksonville, NC, Brock Ernest of Mount Union; granddaughter, Lindsey (Duffey) Shaffer and husband Matthew of Rockwood, PA; great-grandsons, Wyatt Shaffer of Rockwood, Dawson Shaffer of Rockwood, Matelyn Shaffer of Rockwood, Tex Duffey of Jacksonville, NC; and many nieces and nephews. Richard was a 1963 graduate of Captain Jack High School. Following graduation, he worked for more than 20 years at Greif/Dalco Industries in Mount Union. He later continued his career with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections at SCI Huntingdon, where he served as a factory foreman in clothing manufacturing until his retirement. He enjoyed the outdoors and could often be found fishing, hunting, golfing, or taking long drives through the countryside in search of wildlife. Known for his quick wit and great sense of humor, he was a natural jokester who loved making others laugh. His lighthearted personality and storytelling will be fondly remembered by those who knew him. Friends and family will be received Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 10:00 – 11:30 with a service at 11:30 in the Heath-Anderson Funeral Home. Rev. Jerry Wise, officiant. Burial to follow at Mapleton IOOF cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Heath-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 61 E.
