Phyllis Marie (Atherton) Carter-Thomson, 93, of Huntingdon, passed through the vail October 7, 2026. She was the second child and first daughter of five born to the late Leslie Elwood Atherton and Verna Alma Wharton. Born April 25, 1933, in Wayne Township, Mifflin County, Pa. She was educated in the Mount Union School District, dropping out in the eighth grade for family reasons. She received her GED in 1968. She married Melvin Brice Osborne on January 21, 1950, in Winchester VA, to whom she had three children. She then married George W. Carter Jr. in July 1972 in Winchester, VA. He preceded her in death January 2, 2010. She married David B. Thomson, June 10, 2016, in Kensington, Montgomery County, Maryland. He survives her. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Ann (Osborne) Horn; grandson, Brian K. Horn; and sister, Kaylene Fay (Atherton) Perry. She is survived by son, Kenneth Melvin Osborne; daughters, Connie Marie Osborne, Valerie Olga (Carter) Dixon and husband George; son-in-law, Dennis Roy Horn; former daughter-in-law, Pamela Diven. Also surviving are siblings, Leslie Mervyn Atherton, Shirley Ann (Atherton) Reck and Robert Edward Atherton and wife Jean. Grandchildren, Dennis Marie (Horn) Zinoble, Angela Irene (Horn) Duval and husband Richard, Amy Jo (Osborne) Ryder, Kenneth Osborne, Kimberly (Osborne) Sandidge, Crystal Dawn (Dixon) Sheffield and husband Jairus, George Gregory Dixon, Gregory Dixon and Dustin Dixon. She also has a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Phyllis worked for the Travel Pack for a number of years. She also worked for The L. Greif and Brothers sewing factory, until its closing. She and her husband George owned a number of apartments in Mill Creek where she did the office work. Phyllis was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Over the years she served in many roles working with her peers, youth and children. Her greatest love was serving as an Ordinance Worker for over thirty-five years in the Washington D.C. Temple. Throughout her years of service to the Church, Phyllis held many meaningful positions, including Children’s Primary President, Young Women’s Counselor, and Nursery Leader. Phyllis was also active in her community. She served as the chairperson for the 1978 Millcreek Bicentennial. Her faith and dedication touched the lives of countless people, and she found great joy in serving others. Phyllis will be remembered for her unwavering faith, generous heart, dedication to her family, and many years of service to her church and community. Her life was a testament to the difference one person can make through faith, kindness, and service. Friends and family will be received Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 11:00 – 12:00 with a service at 12:15 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 12982 Big Valley Pike, Mill Creek, Pa.
