Yakymac, Paul, 92, Mount Union, went home to be with the Lord August 8, 2019 at AristaCare at Huntingdon Park. Born April 17, 1927, Mount Union, son of the late Daniel and Esther (McKinnis) Yakymec. Preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Rippert, Stella Loope, and Catherine Heidel. Survived by his loving wife, Katherine (Stasko); children, Paul and fiancée, Stacy Barrett, Altoona; Cynthia Yakymac-Kline and husband, David, Harrisburg; Jon Yakymac and wife, Danette; and Christopher Yakymac and fiancée, April Neil; 11 grandchildren, Jakob, Nicolette, Michael (Danielle), Austin, Logan, Evan, Anthony, Ethan, Katelynn, C.J., and Mia; 2 great-grandchildren, Collin and Oaklan; and sister, Anna Holesa, Mount Union. Paul served as a Seaman First Class in the US Navy during WWII on the USS Bogue in the South Pacific Ocean for two years. During his time in the Navy he received the Pacific Theater and American Theater Ribbons and the Victory Medal. He enjoyed hunting, traveling, rebuilding small engines, and spending time with his family, especially their picnics at Raystown. At Paul’s request there will be a private viewing for his family. A funeral Mass will be celebrated August 14 at 1 p.m., St. Catherine of Siena Church, Fr. Joseph Fleming, celebrant. Military honors will be provided by the VFW and American Legion Honor and Color Guard. Interment St. Catherine Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made a charity of your choice or to any local veterans organization in Paul’s name.
