Obituary

Minerva Jane Moore, 97, formerly of Mount Union, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, at Westminster Woods of Huntingdon. Born July 17, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Roy J. and Laura (Rupert) Black of Allenport. Minerva was preceded in death by brothers, Wilmer Black and Warren Black, and sisters Edwinna Jenkins and Joan Stake. To her siblings, Minerva was fondly known as “Sis.” Minerva graduated from Mount Union High School in 1946. Having taught Sunday School for over 50 years, Minerva believed in the power of education. In fact, when not chatting with friends, family, or neighbors on the telephone or porch, you could find Minerva reading the local newspaper, doing crossword puzzles and sudoku, or watching Jeopardy. Minerva was united in marriage to Carl E. Moore on July 12, 1947, in Hagerstown, Maryland. They shared 43 years together until Carl’s passing in 1991. Carl and Minerva raised a daughter and three sons in their home on Ridge Street in Mount Union. Minerva is survived by her sons, Bryan (Debra) Moore, David (Amy) Moore, Steve (Susanne) Moore, daughter, Trudy (Bernard) Woodcock, 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one brother, Roy “Jackie” Black, and many nieces and nephews. Always the matriarch, Minerva cherished time with her family. Minerva was employed at E. B. Enders as a bookkeeper at the time of her retirement. More importantly, she was an active member and leader at the Mount Union Wesleyan Church having served as the director of Wesleyan Woman, director of Children and Youth, church Treasurer and Secretary, Vice Chair of the Local Board of Administration, and district director of Christian Youth Crusaders. A woman of great faith, the work that Minerva did with her Wesleyan Church family brought meaning and joy to her life. Friends and family will be received on Saturday, January 10, 2026 from 9:00 – 11:00am at the Wesleyan Church (609 South Jefferson Street, Mount Union). Pastor Daniel Metz will officiate the service at 11:00am with a burial to follow at the Mount Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to the Mount Union Wesleyan Church for the Global Partners Mission Fund. Arrangements have been entrusted to Heath-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 61 E. Shirley Street, Mount Union, “Honored Provider of Veterans Funeral Care TM.” Condolences may be made at AndersonFamilyFuneralHomes.com
