Margaret E. Fortson

Fortson, Margaret E. 94, Chambersburg, went home to be with the Lord Monday August 7, 2023, at the Laurel Lakes Rehab and Wellness Center, Chambersburg. Born November 26, 1928, Mount Union, daughter of the late Willy H. and Natlene E. (Patterson) Fortson. Survived by children, David L. Fortson wife Dori, Huntingdon; Kenneth D. Fortson wife Julia, Altoona; Howard L. Fortson and companion, Silvia Zimmer, Lewistown; Robin Hoch and husband, Chris, Chambersburg; Linda Fortson and companion, Tim Davis, McConnellsburg; 21 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews including a nephew whom Margaret raised, Raymond Fortson wife Bernice of Chicago Ill. Preceded in death by children, James Fortson, Martha Washington, Mary Banks, William Fortson, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Margaret was a 1947 graduate of Captain Jack Joint High School. She worked for Blyers Industry Inc., and taught head start in Mount Union for several years. Margaret was a member of Eastern Star, Elks Lodge, Bethel AME Church where she served on the finance board and the Stewart Board. She enjoyed singing in church choir and Huntingdon County choir, traveling, tutoring students, and spending time with friends and family. Friends and family will be received at the Bethel AME Church located at 16 Grant Street in Mount Union PA on Saturday August 12, 2023, from 10am until the 11am time of service, pastor Deborah Avery – Widget, officiant.
