Louise Alice Frederick

Frederick, Louise A., 91, Cresson, died in her home, surrounded by family, on January 19, 2018. Born June 6, 1926, daughter of the late Hugh J. and Alice R. (Sharp) McCartney.  She came into this world accompanied by her twin sister, Loretta. “Weeze and Wetta”.  Louise moved to D.C. when she was 18, to help with the war effort. She married Edward Frederick in 1946, and together they raised 8 children. Later in life, after her children were grown, she operated a home child care service for 15+years.  She took great interest in researching her family’s history, tracing her roots as far back as the early 1700s. Another research project she took great pride in was finding and documenting that her beloved homestead, located in the Mountain House Grounds, was once owned by the great steel magnate, Andrew Carnegie, who used it as a summer cottage. She was even once visited by the Great-Granddaughter of Carnegie, and members of the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission.  They awarded her the Carnegie Medal. Louise loved playing Scrabble and was hard to beat! She was a dedicated Catholic and lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier Church. Her faith in God and her family meant everything to her.  Louise is survived by her children, Alice (Mark) Poore, WV, Loretta Maloney, MD, Edward (Vilma), NY, Helen (Gerald) Petersen, AZ, Mary Beck, Cresson, Lois (Barry) Shenck, Pittsburgh, Joseph (Emma Jean) Cresson, Peter, Boiling Springs, 20 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. In addition she is survived by her sisters, Vera Lewis, CO, Cecelia “Sally” Looney, FL and Lillian “Pie” (Jesse) Lewis, MN. Also, numerous nieces and nephews. She will be so missed by every one of them. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward, great-grandchild, Michael Gailey, son-in-law, Jimmy Maloney, brothers and sisters, Mildred Pritchard, William McCartney, Rose Mary “Kitty” McDermott, Margaret Kovachik, Loretta Yarnish, Mary Ellen Miller, and James McCartney. Friends will be received Thursday, January 25, from 4-8 pm at Kennedy-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cresson.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church, Cresson at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 26, Rev. Matthew Reese, officiating. Arrangements handled by Kennedy-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 233 Keystone Ave., Cresson. Condolences may be made at KennedyAndersonFuneralHome.com
