Linda Dean (Havice) Stidfole

Linda Dean (Havice) Stidfole passed away in her home surrounded by her family on the morning of November 29, 2022, at the age of 84. Linda was born on May 6,1938 in Lewistown. She was one of six children born to the late Laura (Firth) Zong and Blaine Havice, Sr. Linda was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Maurice (Moe) Stidfole. She is survived by her children, Laurinda (Rin) Shafer and husband Bob, William (Bill) Stidfole, Sr. and wife Lori, and Maurine Hockenberry and husband Jason of McVeytown. Her six grandchildren: Careen Shafer, William Stidfole, Jr., Stephanie (Stidfole) Lynch, Mason Hockenberry, Mallory Hockenberry, and Monroe Hockenberry. And seven great-grandchildren: Bryton Stidfole, Landen Stidfole, Callie Espigh, Kade Thomas, Karma Lynch, Kale Lynch, and Koa Lynch. She is survived by one sister, Mary Jean Machamer and husband Rob of South Carolina. She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and a sister, Blaine, John, Dave, and Virginia. Linda married her high school sweetheart, Moe Stidfole on July 28, 1956, after graduating from Chief Logan High School. They then moved to Shippensburg, where she worked in a sewing factory to support their family as Moe attended college. In 1964 they purchased their family farm in McVeytown. All 3 of their children and most of their grandchildren were raised on the farm. Big Mom as the grandchildren fondly called her was noted as being a “good cooker” and “great kid watcher” two skills she was very proud of. She was happiest surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. At the request of Linda and her family no public services will be held.
