Waite, Lewis W., 72, Newton Hamilton, passed away May 4, 2022, at Elizabethtown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born July 23, 1949, Cromwell Twp., son of the late Harry D. and Nellie G. (McCoy) Waite. Survived by his loving wife, Betty J. (Miller) Waite; brothers, Fred E. Waite, McConnelsburg; James R. Waite and wife, Hope, Marietta PA; and Richard E. Waite and wife, Nancy, Three Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by siblings, Mary Waite-Hicks, Roy M. Waite, Sam D. Waite, Paul H. Waite, George R. Waite, and Fate Waite-Park. Lewis attended Southern Huntingdon High School. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during Vietnam. He received a National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Sharpshooter Status, Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, and a Vietnam Campaign Medal. Lewis worked for Letterkenny Army Depot for 25 years. He was a former member of the I.O.O.F. of New Grenada. Lewis was a lifetime member of the Newton Wayne Fire Company where he received Fireman of the Year on two occasions and a Lifetime Service Award. He enjoyed hunting, gardening and tinkering and fixing things. Lewis will be remembered for his kind nature and willingness to help anyone. Family and friends will be received on Monday May 9, 2022, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Tuesday May 10, 2022, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment with military honors to follow at Newton Hamilton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Independent Baptist Church of Saltillo, 20258 Main St, Saltillo, PA 17253; The Newton Hamilton United Methodist Church, 176 Church St, Newton Hamilton, PA 17075; or the Newton Wayne Fire Company, 127 Kinsloe Ave, Newton Hamilton, PA 17075.
