Lewis Elliot Cormier, 79, Rockhill Furnace, departed this earthly home peacefully on January 5, 2026, surrounded by family at his home. Born November 14, 1946, Jennings, Louisiana, son of the late Alvin G. and Louise (Daigle) Cormier. In addition to his parents, Lewis was preceded in death by brothers, Flash Cormier, Kanute Cormier, and Donald Cormier. Lewis was united in marriage to the former Gwen Clark, Mrs. Cormier survives at home. Lewis is also survived by son Jamie (Julie) Cormier; daughters Chasity (Cassi) Crochet, and Racheal Schooley; step-son Craig (Rebecca) Curfman; step-daughters Mindy Curfman, and Angela Curfman; granddaughters Kylee Cormier, Kyrstin Cormier and Hevon Schooley; grandsons Lucien Cormier and Rafe Cormier, great-grandson Dudley Aparicio; brother Gene (Ingrid) Cormier; sisters Sandra (Irvy) Reon, and Donna Lynn Lejeune; and four step-grandchildren. Mr. Cormier was a devoted family man and highly skilled carpenter and was known by many as one of the smartest men they had ever met. He possessed vast knowledge and had a sharp mind that never stopped learning. A perfectionist in everything he did, Lewis took great pride in his craft, his organization, and the way he lived his life. Whether he was building with precision, tackling a challenging crossword puzzle, or perfecting a meal, he believed in doing things the right way. He had a true passion for cooking and was famously known as the family’s “grill master.” His steak and chicken were prepared to absolute perfection and became a staple at gatherings with family and friends. He also enjoyed playing cards, camping, and sharing simple moments that brought people together. Lewis proudly served his country in the United States Navy for nine years earning the rank of Fire Control Technician First Class and served on two fast attack submarines during Vietnam, the USS Guardfish SSN 612 and USS Seahorse SSN 669 and was Honorably discharged. He remained committed to service as a member of the American Legion in Rockhill. His dedication, discipline, and integrity were evident throughout his life. Above all else, Lewis deeply loved his family. He will be remembered for his intelligence, loyalty, strong work ethic, and the lasting impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
