Myers, Leonard James “Bud”, 89, a resident of Garvey Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Cresson, passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at the home. Born April 29, 1929, in Lilly, youngest child of Michael V. and & Margaret E. (Gonsman) Myers. He attended St. Bridget’s Grade School and was a 1950 graduate of Lilly-Washington High School. He served in the US Army from 1950 to 1953, with 1 year in Korea during the Korean War, and was awarded the Bronze Star.  On January 8, 1952, he married Anna Mae Eckenrod at St. Francis Xavier Church in Cresson, where they lived for the next 60 years. Bud is survived by his wife, Anna Mae, to whom he was married for 66 years, who presently resides at Garvey Manor; two daughters, Barbara Itle and husband, Ed; and Annette Dorman and husband, Pat, all of Altoona; granddaughter, Stephanie Itle-Clark and husband, Jason; and four grandsons, Christopher & Brian Itle and Matthew & Nathan Dorman; and a great-grandson, Gage Itle. He was preceded in death by sons, Patrick, in 1978 and Francis on April 20, 2018; brothers, Paul, Vincent, Earl & Regis; and sisters, Martha, Loretta, Rita, & Helen. Bud worked as a laboratory technician at Altoona VA Hospital for more than 30 years, retiring in 1984. He was also a member of the Air Force Reserves for 33 years and retired in 1989 with rank of Senior Master Sergeant. After retirement, Bud volunteered with the Red Cross to work at blood mobiles. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, where he was active in fund-raising and serving as a pallbearer. Bud was honored by the local council of the Knights of Columbus in 2009 as Knight of the Year. Once Bud retired, he and Anna Mae enjoyed going to church dinners on Sundays and traveling. Their travels took them to places such as Alaska, Hawaii, Ireland, and a train trip to California. They also enjoyed several Caribbean cruises. Over the years, Bud enjoyed things such as jig-saw puzzles and collecting coins and different types of clocks, including his favorite, a grandfather clock. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 1, 2018 at Kennedy-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cresson, where a vigil for the deceased will be held at 4 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2018, St. Joseph’s Chapel at Garvey Manor Fr. George Gulash, celebrant. Interment St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Cresson and Loretto American Legions, Sankertown VFW and other local veterans’ organizations. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Garvey Manor, 1037 S. Logan Blvd., Hollidaysburg, PA  16648, in Bud’s memory.
