Orehowsky, John R., 90, Lilly, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center surrounded by his family.  He was born June 24, 1929, Lilly, son of the late Francis and Sophie (Halupchak) Orehowsky. Preceded in death by sisters, Anna Walrow, Catherine Waschalk, Mary Zavada, Helen Wasil and Julia Stossel; and brother, Michael F. Orehowsky.  John was the last surviving member of the Orehowsky family. Survived by nephew David Stossel, with whom he resided, and numerous nieces and nephews. John was an active member of his church, Our Lady of the Alleghenies Catholic Church, Lilly, where he was an usher and member of the Men’s Choir. He was a member of the American Legion Post 628 in Lilly for 65 consecutive years. He was a year-round hunter/fisherman and an avid gardener, his amazing asparagus was a wonder to behold and consume. John was never married and had no children, but was very involved in his nieces’ and nephews’ lives. He was a 1947 graduate of the former Lilly High School. After high school, he entered the Navy and enrolled in the Navy Submarine School at New London, Connecticut and served during the Korean Conflict. Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, July 28 at Kennedy-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, July 29 at Our Lady of the Alleghenies Catholic Church, Lilly, Fr. Aaron Devett, celebrant. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lilly Washington Historical Society, 506 Main Street, Lilly or the Lilly War Memorial Association c/o Joe Gides, First Bank of Lilly, 500 Main Street, Lilly.
