John W. McGarvey

McGarvey, John W., 77, Altoona, passed away at UPMC Altoona on Friday, April 5, 2024. Born on September 2, 1946, Altoona, son of the late James H. and Dorothy M. (Specht) McGarvey. Preceded in death by sisters, Dolores Light, Mary Dively, Nancy Welch and Margaret Miller. Also preceded in death by his lifelong companion, Mary Holland. Survived by sisters, Leona (Ronald) Mack, Eunice (Richard) Johnson and Dorothy Weyer; brother, James McGarvey; a special nephew, Daniel Welch; and numerous other nieces and nephews. In John’s spare time, he loved listening to county music. You would also find him often watching his favorite Western movies and professional wrestling. John adored dogs. Most of all, John cherished spending time with family and friends, especially during cookouts. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
