Kalinowski, John David, 73, Mount Union, passed away Saturday October 28, 2023, at home surrounded by his family. Born September 13, 1950, Huntingdon, son of the late John J. and Martha P. (Grenoble) Kalinowski. Survived by his loving wife, Cynthia E. (Datres) Kalinowski; daughter, Natalie Rhodes and husband, Daryl; stepson, Phillip Hess and wife, Lindsey; 4 grandchildren, Blake, McKenzie, Vaughn and Avery; and sister, Susan Crietz. Preceded in death by a brother, Walter Kalinowski. David was a 1968 graduate of Mount Union Area High School. He continued his education at Lock Haven State University and received his bachelor’s degree in 1972. David started his teaching career at Mount Union Area School District where he taught for 7 years and served as an assistant baseball coach. He then spent three years teaching in Germany for the Department of Defense and received the Sustained Superior Performance Award in 1981. David then worked for the Tuscarora Intermediate Unit 11 at Youth Forestry Camp #3 and the South Mountain Secure Treatment Unit as a teacher and head teacher. He retired after 35 years of teaching. David was a past member of the Kiwanis Club and past member and President of the Lions Club. He was a member of the Simpson Hunt American Legion Post 107 and of the Blue Juniata VFW Post 5754. John was a Notre Dame, Yankees, Pirates and Steelers sports fan. He loved traveling and playing golf. A celebration of life will be held later at the convenience of the family.
