John N. Harkleroad

Harkleroad, John N., 82, Mapleton Depot, passed away March 19, 2023 at Penn Highlands, Huntingdon. Born October 10, 1940, Cedar Crest, son of the late Nathan H. Sr. and Dorothy Marie (Williams) Harkleroad. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Carole E.  (Lape) . Survived by his children, Mark Harkleroad and wife, Robin, of Parker Colorado; Sherry L. Smith of Belleville; Lori A. Jackson of Mapleton; Laurie A. McConaughey and husband Duane Jr.  of Belleville; Jodi L. Smith of Mapleton; 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his brother, Nathan Harkleroad  Jr. and wife Betty of Huntingdon; two sisters, Sharon Suter of Mount Union and Jean Price of Huntingdon, several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Louise (Weezie) Foust.  John was preceded in death by his son, James R. Smith; a granddaughter, Kellie Jo Clark, and by a sister, Patricia Dugay, and by two brothers Blair and Glenn Harkleroad.  He was a 1958 graduate of Captain Jack High School and retired from Letterkenny Army Depot where he was a team leader. After retirement he enjoyed working at Your Building Center in Huntingdon.  John was a member of the Beech Run Church of the Brethren. He served in the Army National Guard and enjoyed hunting, woodworking, Bigfoot, and genealogy. Family and friends will be received on Thursday March 23, 2023, from 7 p.m. until 9p.m. at the funeral home.  A funeral service will be held Friday March 24, 2023 at 11a.m. at the funeral home, Pastor Ernie Dell, officiant.
