Atherton, John S. “Yunk”, 78, Mount Union, passed away November 16, 2020 at his home in Newton Hamilton. Born July 22, 1942, Mount Union, son of the late John L. and Dorothy M. (Heidel) Atherton. Preceded in death by loving wife, Judith A. (Booher) Atherton; Daughter, Karen Atherton; and siblings, Frank Atherton, Charles “Yud” Atherton, and Rose Lantz. Survived by children, John G. Atherton and significant other, Susie, Mount Union; Tammy Bowser and husband, Andy, Mount Union; Jo Ann Bellotti and husband, Randy, Leeper; and Mose Atherton, Mount Union; Siblings, Scott Atherton and Pat Harven; 11 grandchildren, Kristy, Alicia, Reneé, Marcia, Andrew, Chevelle, Jessie, Hunter, Tayler, Rylee, Gentrie; and 17 great-grandchildren. John was a graduate of Captain Jack High School. He worked at Robin Footwear and later Harbison Walker Brickyard until retirement. John was an avid hunter who spent his downtime watching football, rooting for Penn State University. He enjoyed golf when he was younger and always cherished his time with his loved ones. John’s motto was to eat, drink and hunt. Family and friends will be received Friday, November 20 at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m., Greg Harven, officiant. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, people attending are asked to wear a mask and abide by social distancing guidelines.
