Roberts, Jerome S. "Jerry", 77, Cresson, died August 17, 2017, at UPMC Altoona. Born April 28, 1940, in Cresson, son of the late Joseph P. Sr. and Edith (Hite) Roberts. Preceded in death by infant brother, Eugene; sister, Josette; and father and mother-in-law, James and Louise Johnson. Survived by wife, Barbara (Johnson), whom he married June 8, 1963; son Scott and wife, Cindi, Naperville, Illinois; grandsons, Zachary and Ian; and siblings: Jeff; Joseph P. Jr.; Justin; and Jay, all of Cresson; Mary Jane Crilley, Erie; and June Chiappone, Florida. 1958 graduate of Cresson Joint High School, where he played football.1963 graduate of Lock Haven State College, receiving a bachelor's degree in health and physical education, and also received a master's degree in health and physical education from West Virginia University. Was inducted into the Lock Haven Hall of Fame; and received national recognition with the Little All American while playing football at Lock Haven. Jerry began his teaching career at Bellwood-Antis School District, followed by a time at Keith Jr. High School, Altoona. He then began his career at Penn Cambria School District, where he taught health and physical education and coached football, wrestling and track, retiring in 1997. He also coached football at St. Francis University for 13 years. Member of St. Francis Xavier Parish; And Summit Country Club, both of Cresson; and Summit Athletic Club, Altoona. Jerry was an exceptional wood carver, and enjoyed golfing, gardening and yard work, and travelling, both in this country and abroad. At request of deceased, there will be no public viewing or visitation. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Church, Rev. Leo Arnone. Committal, church cemetery. Memorial contributions, in memory of Jerry, may be made to the Joseph, Edith and Josette Roberts Scholarship Fund for education graduates at St. Francis University, Loretto, Pa.
