Jean E. Troutman

Jean E. Troutman, 90, a long-time resident of Mount Union, passed away Nov. 25 at Harmony at State College. Born Dec. 1, 1932, in Burnham, she was the daughter of the late John and Hazel Harpster Dean. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth E. Troutman of Mount Union; a brother, Calvin Dean of Burnham; a sister, Hazel Egan of New Cumberland, and a niece, Mary Lou Egan of New Cumberland. Surviving are a son, John Dean Troutman and wife Linda of New Cumberland; two grandchildren, Jessi Troutman Barrett and husband Patrick of Greenville, SC, and Jacob Dean Troutman and wife Arnela Zeljkovic of New Cumberland; three great-grandchildren, Harper and Hudson Barrett of Greenville, SC, and Luka Dean Troutman of New Cumberland; a niece, Jean Hileman and husband Dennis of Dillsburg; and several other nieces and nephews. Jean enjoyed working with flowers in her yard and her bird feeders, and she was an avid sports fan, following the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and Mount Union Area High School teams. She was a good pinochle player, and in their younger years her and her husband had a reputation as outstanding dancers of the jitterbug. And they would never miss an opportunity to slow dance to Unchained Melody (their song). In addition to her love of her family, Jean was known for doing quiet deeds for people, particularly those in need. She was a 1951 graduate of the former Burnham High School, where she was a member of the girls’ basketball team. She was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church of Mount Union. Her working career included the American Viscose Corp. in Lewistown, Andrews Feed Mill in Mapleton, Griffiths Oil in Huntingdon, and Mount Union cable operations. Family and friends will be received on Friday December 1, 2023, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12 noon, at the funeral home, Joseph Barrett, officiant. Interment to follow at Mount Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Grane Hospice, 115 Union Ave Altoona, PA 16602.
