James “Alan” Colbert, 87 of Alexandria went to be with the Lord on August 23, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family in the comfort of his own home. Born June 26, 1939, he was the son of the late David E Colbert Sr. and Mary (Scott) Colbert. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife Sarah “Sally” (Smith) Colbert; son, Scott A. Colbert; and brothers, David Colbert Jr., Gerald Colbert. Alan is survived by his daughter, Caroline Colbert; grandson, Kai A. Colbert; and brother John (Roseanne) Colbert. Alan served in the United States Army as a Pvt. 1st class for several months until his discharge into the Pennsylvania National Guard where he served his country for another 7 and a half years, Alan was honorably discharged from duty in 1964. Alan drove as a long-haul truck driver for 42 years with Mead, WH Johns, and Ward Trucking until his retirement. He then discovered the craft of woodworking and put love into his pieces, many of which ended up being given away out of the kindness of his heart. Alan served as an Elder and Trustee for the First Presbyterian of Alexandria and was a member of several organizations including the FOG (Five Old Guys), and church ministry group. He also served as the president of the local chapter of National Campers and Hikers Association as well as the state editor of the Penn Chatter. A Memorial Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 311 Shelton Ave, Alexandria, PA 16611 at 11:00 on Saturday, September 5, 2026. Pastor Nathaniel Koozer and Rev. John Dean, officiants. Following the service, a meal will be held, and all are welcome to join the family for food and fellowship.
