Gordon Bauman Hayes

Hayes, Gordon Bauman, 82, of McVeytown, passed away January 23, 2023, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born June 8, 1940, Syracuse NY, son of the late Gordon W. and Rosa Belle (Henderson) Hayes. Survived by loving wife, Mary Jane (Anderson) Hayes; sons, Christopher Hayes; Jonathan Hayes; Gordon Henderson Hayes; and adopted daughter, Michelle Andrea Hayes. After high school, Gordon obtained his insurance professional degrees and designations of Accredited Advisor in Insurance (AAI) and Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow (LUTCF). He started his career as an insurance agent in Los Angeles, California before retiring as district manager for a major insurance company in 2007. Gordon loved to travel and spent many years exploring Mexico. Since retirement he worked to perfect his already fluent Spanish by exploring new places and greatly enjoyed befriending the Mexican people whom he always revered as warm and friendly. He also held the status of Emeritus Member of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and was proud of this distinction. Family and friends will be received on Saturday, January 28, 2023, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12 p.m., at the funeral home, Father Joseph Fleming, officiant. Interment to follow at Atkinson Mills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
