Gary S. Drake Sr., 75, of Valley View Circle, Mount Union, went to be with the Lord on Saturday February 5, 2022, surrounded by his family at his home. He was born October 3, 1946, in Huntingdon County. He was the son of the late Torrence and Dola (Crotsley) Drake. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Patricia (Woodward) Drake. In addition, he is survived by loving children, Tina Sheeder and husband, Wyatt; Patty Zook and husband, Robert; Wayne Ripple and wife, Louann; Gary Drake Jr. and wife, Beth; and Mark Drake and wife, Shilo. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Josephine M. Harris, a son, Homer C. Ripple Jr., and 2 sisters, Judith Heidler, and Linda Drake (infant). Gary joined the United States Army and honorably served his country as a Vietnam Veteran. Gary was reared in the home of his “pap” who taught him the value of a hard day’s work. Throughout his life he worked in numerous professions until retiring from Owens Corning after more than 30 years as a respected and loyal employee. He was an active member of Grace Community Church in Mount Union where he proudly served as a deacon until his health declined. He enjoyed working in all the various phases of the foodbank, helping in and around the church, and looked forward to driving the school bus to pick up children in the community for Sunday School or Bible Study. In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors. Whether he was mowing, gardening, taking a road trip with his “sweetheart”, or just sitting on the porch swing with his two dogs, Buster and Coco, at his feet, he felt blessed to be witness to all that God had created. He was always happy surrounded by God’s presence, his adoring family—especially his grandchildren, and his lifelong friends. Gary was especially fond of his friend, Pastor Danny. He will be forever remembered for the loving, kind, loyal heart he shared with all who knew him. Friends and family will be received on Friday February 11, 2022, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and on Saturday February 12, 2022, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, Pastor Danny Neff, officiant. Interment to follow at Mt. Nebo Cemetery, Croghan Pike. The family invites folks to attend a luncheon following services at the New Life Fellowship Church, 14896 Croghan Pike, Mt Union, PA 17066. Arrangements have been entrusted to Heath-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 61 E. Shirley St., Mount Union, “Honored Provider of Veterans Funeral Care™.” Condolences may be made at AndersonFamilyFuneralHomes.com
