Fred H. Diak

Diak, Fred H., 86, Mount Union, passed away Monday November 6, 2023, at home following a lengthy illness. Born December 14, 1936, Robertsdale, son of the late John and Ellen (Rubbick) Diak. Survived by his loving wife, Mary Jane (Hileman) Diak, whom he married on April 4, 1965, at the First United Methodist Church, Mount Union. Also surviving are children, Sherry Barrick and husband Steven, Newton Hamilton; Nichole Cullen and husband Sean, Hummelstown; 4 grandchildren, Tabitha Yocum and husband Jordan, Birdsboro; Natalie Newingham and husband Thomas, Tyrone; Aubrey Cullen, Hershey; and Brady Cullen, Hummelstown; 2 great granddaughters, Hailey and Mosley Yocum; sister, Madeline Shrewsburg, Blairsville. Preceded in death by siblings, Ann, Nick, Helen, John, Mary, Kay, Russell, Paul, George, and Pete. Fred was a 1956 graduate of Robertsdale High School. He honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960 as a tank mechanic. Fred worked in construction and was a builder and welder of water towers and then later a welder at Sperry New Holland. He enjoyed working on mowers, building birdhouses and other wood projects. Fred also liked sewing and tinkering in his workshop. He was an avid hunter his entire life—loving deer season. Most of all he loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-granddaughters. Family and friends will be received on Friday November 10, 2023, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12 noon, at the funeral home, Joseph Barrett, officiant.
