Francis J. Myers

Myers, Francis J. “Frank”, 60, a resident of Cambria Care Center since 2012, formerly of Cresson, passed away Friday, April 20, 2018 at the home. He was born November 11, 1957 in Altoona, son of Leonard J “Bud” and Anna Mae (Eckenrod) Myers. Surviving are his parents, presently residing at Garvey Manor in Hollidaysburg; two sisters, Barbara Itle and husband, Ed; and Annette Dorman and husband, Pat, all of Altoona; niece, Stephanie Itle-Clark and husband, Jason; and 4 nephews, Christopher & Brian Itle and Matthew & Nathan Dorman and a great-nephew, Gage Itle. He was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick Myers. Frank was a 1975 graduate of Penn Cambria High School and attended Admiral Perry Vo-Tech School for welding. He was employed as a welder in Virginia and then as a trackman for Conrail prior to a snow mobile accident in January of 1978 that left him with debilitating injuries. His parents cared for him at their home in Cresson until October of 2005. He then moved into a group home operated by Cambria Residential Services in Portage, where he received excellent care from the staff, until he was admitted to Cambria Care Center due to increased health problems. After his accident, Frank spent 20 years working for Cambria County Association for the Blind and Handicapped as a disabled worker. In spite of his disability, Frank was fun loving and always had a smile on his face. He was a life-long member of St. Francis Xavier Church in Cresson, where the funeral Mass will be celebrated April 24, 10 a.m., Fr. George Gulash, celebrant. Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 23, at Kennedy-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cresson, where a vigil for the deceased will be held, Fr. Matthew Reese, celebrant. Interment St. Francis Xavier Church. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Central PA Humane Society, 1837 E Pleasant Valley Blvd, Altoona, PA 16602, in memory of Frank.
