Obituary

Dorothy E. Winfree, 87, State College, formerly of Mount Union, was called home by the Lord on June 2, 2026, at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College. Dorothy was born April 1, 1939, in Danville, VA, daughter of the late David and Louise (Himes) Martin. Dorothy is preceded in death by children, Tuesday Ann Winfree, Charmaine Winfree, Louis Paul Winfree II, and Thurston David Winfree and siblings, Rosalee Wilson, Clarence Martin, and Mary Louise Miller. Dorothy is survived by her loving companion whom she shared over 40 loving years with, John “JC” Hewitt. Also survived by grandchildren, Amber Winfree, Sierrah Winfree, Miles David Winfree, and Thurston Winfree Jr. and great-grandchildren, Aniyah and Elijah Winfree. Dorothy worked as an Accountant for several places over the years, including the National Credit Union Administration, the Department of Agriculture, and General Motors in Altoona. Dorothy was a faithful member Mount Union Hope Baptist church, finding great joy in worship and prayer. Dorothy will be deeply missed by her loving family, whom she cherished spending time with. Friends and family will be received Friday, June 12, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. with a service at 12:30 p.m. Rev. Sylvia Morris officiating. Burial to follow at Mount Union Borough Cemetery.
