Rutter, Dorothy Jane, 91, 14876 Croghan Pike, Mount Union, passed away February 20, 2020 surrounded by her family at Penn Highlands Huntingdon after a courageous 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s. Born February 18, 1929, Shade Gap, daughter of the late McCellan and Blanche (Robinson) Kerlin. Preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Eugene D. Rutter, whom she married on June 4, 1949 in Winchester, VA; brothers, Dean Kerlin, Daryl Kerlin, and SSgt. Dale S. Kerlin, who was killed in action in Germany during WWII; sister, Darlene Yaple. Survived by children, Gary L. Rutter, Shirleysburg; Susan B. Rutter, Three Springs; Robin A. Rutter and Husband Larry Shultz, Huntingdon; and sister, Cheerful Kidd. Dorothy was 1947 honors graduate of Mount Union High School.  Dorothy enjoyed sewing, crocheting, birdwatching, long walks, crossword puzzles, traveling and playing the piano. Dorothy lived at her current home for over 70 years. Dorothy was a devoted mother and her life revolved around family and her church. She was a member of the Allenport United Methodist Church and gave piano lessons to any interested children. She served as the music director of the Church for 60 years. Dorothy worked in the laboratory at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital and various sewing factories in Huntingdon County. She retired from Juniata College’s food service department in 1987. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday February 25, 2020 at 3 p.m., at Haven Rest Memorial Park, Joseph Barrett, officiant. Arrangements have been entrusted to Heath-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 61 E.
