Donna Jane (Whitsel) Hardy, 89, formerly of Mount Union, Gettysburg, Harrisburg, Carlisle, Newton Hamilton, DuBois, State College and, most recently, as a resident at Harmony of State College, died on Tuesday morning, March 12, 2024, at 5:30 am at the Mount Nittany Medical Center after battling on-going illnesses. Born August 19, 1934, in Mount Union, Huntingdon County, she was the daughter of the late Amy (Black) Whitsel and the late Theodore H Whitsel of Mount Union.  She was preceded in death by her husband of over 41 years, Ronald J Hardy. Mrs. Hardy is survived by one child, Annette Hampton and husband, Michael, of Pennsylvania Furnace; and her grandsons, James and David Hampton; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Whitsel of North Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband; her son, Dr. Stephen J Hardy; her parents; and by her three brothers, Dr. Theodore Whitsel, Paul Whitsel, and Dr. Barry Whitsel. Donna was a 1952 graduate of Captain Jack Joint High School, a 1956 business graduate of Gettysburg College and pursued additional course work at both Juniata College and the Pennsylvania State University. Prior to retiring in 1993, Mrs. Hardy had been employed as a sixth grade teacher in the Mifflin County School District for over 30 years.  Prior to her teaching career, Mrs. Hardy had worked in the offices of Owens Corning Fiberglass (Huntingdon) and as an associate woman’s buyer for Pomeroy’s Department Store (Harrisburg).  After her move to State College in 1998, Mrs. Hardy filled her spare time by volunteering in the Gift Shop at Mount Nittany Medical Center and spending time with her family. At the family’s request, there will be no services or visitation.  Interment will be made at Morningside Cemetery, DuBois at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Heath-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 61 E.
