Donald F. Criste

Criste, Donald F., 92, Martinsburg, died Nov. 19, 2018, at UPMC Altoona. Born Jan. 30, 1926, Cresson, son of the late Leo A. and Pauline A. (Garrett) Criste. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Helen T. (Stein), whom he married Aug. 26, 1947 at St. Francis Xavier Church, Cresson; sisters, Katherine, and Virginia; and brothers, Melvin and Gary. Survived by children, Gary F. (Deborah), Summersville, West Va.; James D., Honduras, Central America; Thomas R. (Karen), Harbor Springs, Mich.; John E. (Diane) McMurray; Michael J., Point Pleasant, West Va.; and Dawn M. Abbate (Scott), Cranberry Twp.; 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Laverne Schraf, Columbiana, Ohio; and Nadine Holtz., The Villages, Fla. Donald was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army Air Force in Italy. He graduated in Electrical Engineering from Penn State. He spent all but six months of his working career with Eastern Associated Coal and retired in 1986 as a Vice President. Donald and his wife raised their family largely in Bethel Park, before retiring in Duncansville in 1987 and later moving to Homewood at Martinsburg in 2008. He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church, Hollidaysburg where a funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 24, Msgr. Stanley Carson, celebrant. Friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23 at Kennedy-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 233 Keystone Ave., Cresson, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Entombment, St. Francis Xavier Mausoleum, Cresson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael's Church, Hollidaysburg or Homewood Benevolent Fund, Martinsburg.
