Plank, Clair Max, 96, died on Saturday September 25, 2021, at VAMC-CLC in Altoona. Clair, formerly of Mount Union RD, moved to Graystone Apartments in Huntingdon soon after his wife’s death. He was admitted to the Altoona VAMC-CLC in May of 2021. Born May 10, 1925, at home on the farm near Shirleysburg he then lived most of his life in the Mount Union area. He was the son of the late Oscar and Elsie (Gibbons) Plank. All five siblings have preceded him in death. Clair was united in marriage to the former M. Pauline Getz of Mount Union in November 1944. His wife preceded him in death in July 2011. He is survived by a daughter, Linda Parks. She and her husband, Ed, live near Tyrone and their son, Soctt and his wife, Dianna reside in North Carolina. Mr. Plank attended Orbisonia schools. He retired after working 44 years at Harbison-Walker Brick Refractories in Mount Union. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army 777 Tank Battalion 69 Infantry Division Co. D. PFC Plank was injured when the tank, he was the gunner of, was hit by a German missile during the Battle of the Bulge. He received a Purple Heart and was honorably discharged. Clair was a long-time active member of the CMA Church in Mount Union. He was a life member of the Mount Union American Legion Post 107 and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Clair had enjoyed hunting and camping with family and friends. A private family service will be led by Elder Harry Boyer with full military honors by the Alexandria American Legion at Haven Rest Memorial Park, Shirleysburg.
