Christopher R. Zimmerman Sr

Christopher R. Zimmerman Sr., 69, passed away on Thursday, 2 Mar 2017. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Sr. and Jane (McCaffrey) Zimmerman; sister Jane Zimmerman and brothers, Fred, Michael and Donald. He is survived by wife of 48 years Mary Lou (Leyo) Zimmerman; daughter Jennifer Cradier, and sons Christopher Jr. and Scott; two granddaughters Gabriella and Adaleigh; and sisters Patricia White, Cathy Farabaugh and Terry Teach; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Christopher was a 1965 graduate of Bishop Carroll High School, Ebensburg, PA. Christopher worked for the United States Postal Service for 32 years, retiring in 2003. He also served with the United States Army and Pennsylvania Army National Guard for a total of 23 years, retiring in 2004. After retirement from two full careers, Christopher continued to serve his community as a bus driver for Wilkinson's Transportation. He was a Little League Coach, an avid golfer, lifelong Steelers fan and loved spending time outdoors with family and friends. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 0238 and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 7377. He was a member of the Central Pennsylvania National Guard Veterans Association, the Loyal Order of the Moose Gallitzin Lodge 185, the Slavish Citizens Club, Lilly, PA and the San Pieto Di Roma Italian Mutual Society, Cresson, PA. He proudly served with the Cresson Area Military Honor Guard. Friends and family will be received at the Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, 233 Keystone Avenue, Cresson, PA on Friday, 21 April from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm. A funeral mass with Rev. Leo Arnone as celebrant and Father Paul Robine as co-celebrant will be held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Cresson, PA on Saturday, 22 April at 9:30am. Military graveside rites presented by the Cresson Area Military Honor Guard will follow at the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Legion or VFW.
