Varner, Charles G. Sr., 90, Silverford Heights, passed away Sunday July 13, 2025, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born October 8, 1934, Newton Hamilton, son of the late Thomas and Virginia (Gearhart) Varner. Preceded in death by his loving wives, Anna Sophia (McMullen) and Caroline June (Morrow) Varner. Survived by children, Debra Kay Varner, Connie Larue Fields, and Pamela J. Varner; 2 grandchildren, Dustin Heintz and Russell Heintz; 7 great grandchildren, Gage, Hayden, Ryan, Roxy, Kendall, Jared and Maggie; and 1 great great grandchild, Cove; siblings, Alice, Mary, Hazel, Nellie, Inaze, Dave, Don, and Tom. Preceded in death by a son, Charles G. “Herk” Varner Jr.; and siblings, Luther, Naomi, Anna, Pauline, and Cuma. Mr. Varner was of the Methodist faith. After school he honorably served his country in the United States Army. He was known to be a “workaholic”, spending 44 years at the Sandworks in Mapleton before spending 17 years with the Mount Union Area School District in the maintenance department, eventually deciding to retire at 80 years old. Mr. Varner was a member of the F&AM McVeytown Lodge #376 and the Altoona Jaffa Shrine. Family and friends will be received on Thursday July 17, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and again on Friday July 18, 2025, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m., at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Newton Hamilton Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Heath-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 61 E.
