Dziabo, Anthony J. Sr. "Lefty", 91, Cresson, died March 8, 2017, at home. Born April 10, 1925, in Gallitzin, son of the late John and Elizabeth (Koskey) Dziabo. Preceded in death by wife, Anne M. (Marnecheck) on August 3, 2004, and several brothers and sisters. Survived by children: Penny Huber (Paul), Pittsburgh; Anthony Jr. (Emilie Van Dewalle), Lake Forest, Calif.; Deborah Nesbella (Paul), Ebensburg; Michael C. (Jamie Nelson), Cresson; Mary F. McDermott (Michael), Cresson; John (Gloria Gabany), Cresson; Elizabeth S. Ciro (Joseph), Philadelphia; and Melissa A. "Missy" (Claudia Lucas), Naples, Fla.; grandchildren: Heather and Ash Garrett; Sarah, Anne and Dorothy "DeeDee" Dziabo; Anne and Matthew Nesbella; Michael II, Andrew and Jennifer Dziabo; Nathan, Valarie and Lindsey McDermott; Ashley, Quintin, Anthony and Joseph Dziabo; and Gianna and Anthony Ciro; 21 great-grandchildren; and faithful canine companion, Jesse. Brother of Lucy Shall, York; and Stella Phillips, Palm Springs, Calif. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic Pacific and European African campaigns. Retired as a foreman from Mine 32, Ebensburg in 1981, after 33 years of service. Lefty and Anne's union was blessed with an immediate family which numbers 71 members. This family was their shining pride and joy, which is a testimony to their devotion and love of family. Lefty played baseball in the minor leagues in Arizona for the Cubs from 1948 to 1949. His interests included golf, gardening, shooting pool, cooking, and sports, especially the Pirates and Steelers. Life member of Sankertown V.F.W. Member of Cresson and Naples, Fla. American Legions; St. Francis Xavier Parish; and Summit Country Club for 50 Years. Former member of Gallitzin Polish Club. Family and friends received from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, Cresson, where vigil for the deceased will be held. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Cresson, Rev. Leo Arnone. Committal, church cemetery. Military graveside rite by Sankertown V.F.W., Cresson American Legion, and other local veteran organizations. www.cmkennedyfh.com
