Agnes R. Daugherty

Daugherty, Agnes R., 97, Cresson, died January 26, 2017, at home. Daughter of the late Ira P. and Marie (Dunmyer) Bradley, was born in the Johnstown Hospital on May 21, 1919, spending her first five years in South Fork, before moving to the Mountain House grounds in Cresson, where construction on the family home had just been completed. The third eldest of seven children, Agnes attended Mount Aloysius Academy, and enrolled in Johnstown Mercy Hospital School of Nursing. She married Regis Daugherty from Spangler, and they spent their early years together in Colver before moving to El Cajon, Calif. in 1952. There she raised three children, received her R.N. and completed her nursing degree, which led to her supervising an ICU in Fallbrook, Calif. for ten years. Retiring and returning to Cresson in 1984, Agnes moved back into the family home to care for her aging parents, and to continue raising her grandson, Christopher Daugherty, who she often said changed her life for the better and kept her young. She was devoted to her Catholic faith and uncompromising in her ideals, as anyone who knew her would attest. In her later years, she occupied the position of matriarch of the Bradley family. Preceded in death by her husband; son, Regis; sister, Helen Williams; and brothers, Joseph, Ira, William, and Michael. Survived by children: Marianne Johnson(Claud), Bellingham, WA; and Patrick(Cecilia), Mercer Island, WA; grandchildren: Christopher Daugherty, Kristine Moore, and Christian Gurling; six great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren; brother, Jerry(Clara), Cresson; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. At request of deceased, there will be no viewing or visitation. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Rev. Leo Arnone. Arrangements by Charles M. Kennedy Funeral Home, Cresson. Memorial contributions may be made to Home Nursing Agency Hospice, 118 Ebony Road, Ebensburg, Pa. 15931. www.cmkennedyfh.com
