Illig, Richard A. “Dick” Sr., 87, Cresson, fondly known as “Pap” to many, passed peacefully, December 29, 2018 at Cambria Care Center, Ebensburg. Born October 22, 1931, Ebensburg, son of the late Cyril “Bill” and Cecilia (Sharp) Illig. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Elizabeth “Betty” (Takach) Illig; brothers, Bill, Glenn, Mick, and Ray Illig; and sisters, Leona Stevens and Mazie Pramuk. Survived by his sons, Richard Jr.; and David (Ben), both of Cocoa, FL; daughter, Deborah (Tim) Harris, Cresson; granddaughters, Amanda (Jacob) Decker and Jessica (Mike) Kakabar, who were his everything; 4 great-grandchildren, Abigail, Timmy, Kali, and Davey, who were the light of his life; brother, Butch Illig, Pittsburgh; sisters, Eunice Croll, Hollidaysburg; Ollie Jacobs, Cresson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dick was a US Army veteran. He retired from the Pennsylvania State Police in 1984 and also worked at the Blair and Cambria County Sheriffs Depts. Dick enjoyed going to the YMCA and golfing with his buddies, but his greatest love was his family and painting. People loved getting painted pictures from him as gifts. Family and friends will be received Thursday, January 3, from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Kennedy-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services where a vigil for the deceased will be held. Mass will be celebrated Friday, January 4, 11 a.m., St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Fr. Leo Arnone celebrant. Military honors will be conducted after mass by the Cresson & Loretto American Legions, Sankertown VFW, and other local veteran organizations. Entombment Calvary Cemetery, Altoona. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Pennsylvania State Police FOP Association or the Alzheimer’s Association in Dick’s memory.
